Wayne Kuiken has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2022, when the roof and the solar array were bought on the same day. The roof was signed on 27 July and finished on 4 August; the array followed in late October.
4,900 square feet, and 481 feet of edge
This is a large roof by any measure, and the tear-off was a single layer down to the sheathing, cleaned up and carted away with the dumpster included. GAF deck protection went over the exposed sheathing, then a GAF Timberline HDZ system in Pewter gray with a 50-year warranty, aluminum drip edge along 481 feet of rakes, eaves and valleys, and a ridge vent along the peak. Eight days from signing to a finished roof of that size is a full crew and a clear week rather than anything clever.
32 panels and 11.68 kW
Thirty-two REC 365 watt panels came to 11.68 kW on Snap-N-Rack mounting, finished on 25 October 2022, running into a SolarEdge SE10000H HD Wave inverter with an optimizer on every panel. PSE&G is the utility and the first year was designed for about 13,475 kWh.
Why the roof went first
Twelve weeks separated the roof from the array, and the order was the point. An array is fastened down for twenty-five years and more, so a worn roof underneath one is a second job with a date already on it — panels off, roof on, panels back. Doing the roof first put this array onto shingles a few weeks old, on a 50-year system, and left nothing under the panels that will need attention while they are there.

Questions from North Haledon homeowners
RoofingWhy is water running behind my gutter?
Possible causes include improper gutter position, roof-edge flashing problems, deterioration at the fascia, or water bypassing the gutter edge. The roof edge, the drip edge and the gutter should be evaluated together.
SolarCan the old mounting hardware be reused after a reroof?
It depends on the manufacturer's requirements, the condition of the components and the warranty. The roof penetrations and weatherproofing components matter most, and a reroof is often the moment to replace the attachment and flashing rather than reinstall ageing roof-interface hardware.
RoofingDoes a North Haledon roofing contractor need to be registered with the State?
A business performing residential roofing in New Jersey generally falls under the Home Improvement Contractor Business registration requirements unless an exemption applies. Homeowners should verify that the company has a current New Jersey home-improvement registration and appropriate insurance before signing a contract.
