Josh from Belford, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since November of 2019. The generator was installed by another company and commissioned in January of 2015, and the servicing came to us nearly five years later. The first visit was not a routine one: the machine would start and then stop again after about thirty seconds, which is the classic sign of a fault that a weekly self-test will never reveal and an outage certainly will. It was put right, and the intervals have been kept since – the five-year, 1,000-hour and subsequent services following in the years after. An annual maintenance plan and an extended parts-and-labor warranty both sit behind the machine now.

Standby generator questions from Belford homeowners
Can a generator be installed in a flood zone in Belford?
Yes, but the generator and its electrical equipment may need to be elevated or otherwise protected. The installation is evaluated against the property's FEMA flood zone, its Base Flood Elevation and Design Flood Elevation, the municipal flood ordinance, any applicable freeboard, and NJDEP requirements where they apply. It is a property-by-property assessment rather than a rule of thumb.
Can the generator be connected to any nearby gas pipe?
No. The branch supplying the generator has to be sized for the flow and pressure the machine needs. A pipe that happens to be close by may be too small, or may already be carrying too much load. Undersized piping shows up as poor starting, unstable running, reduced output or a generator that shuts down under load.
Why can't a generator be wired straight into the panel?
Because a standby generator needs approved transfer or interconnection equipment so that it cannot unintentionally energise the utility supply. The transfer switch is one of the most important electrical-safety components in the whole installation, not an accessory to it.
