The roof came first, finished on 12 July: a single layer stripped to the sheathing and hauled away, then 4,000 square feet of new composition shingle in pewter gray with a 50-year warranty. The array went on nine days later – 34 panels making 12.41 kW into a SolarEdge HD Wave inverter with optimizers, 168 feet of critter guard around the perimeter, and an estimated 15,111 kilowatt hours in the first year. Atlantic City Electric interconnected the system that September. Doing the roof first is the only order that makes sense on a job like this: a 50-year roof under a 25-year array means the panels should never need to come off and go back on partway through their life.
