The roof came first, finished in April of 2022: a single layer stripped to the sheathing and hauled away, then 3,300 square feet of new composition shingle in charcoal with a 50-year warranty, along with new gutters. The array followed a month later – 36 panels making 12.96 kW into a SolarEdge HD Wave inverter with optimizers, and an estimated 15,185 kilowatt hours in the first year. JCP&L interconnected the system in July. Doing the roof first is the only sensible order: a 50-year roof under a 25-year array means the panels should never need to come off and go back on partway through their life.

Are panels designed for the wind near Brick?
Yes. The array and its mounting system have to be designed to resist the applicable wind loads, and coastal and exposed locations can carry different wind-design conditions from sheltered inland ones. It is one of the reasons the mounting system and its engineering are chosen for the site rather than by habit.
What does a lifetime roof warranty actually mean?
Lifetime is a defined warranty term, not a promise that every future roof expense is covered without limit. Coverage changes over the years and carries eligibility rules, exclusions, a claims procedure and proration provisions. The written warranty is the thing to read; the word on the brochure is not the coverage.
How does an optimiser system differ from microinverters?
An optimiser system puts DC power optimisers at the modules and a single central inverter elsewhere; a microinverter system puts a small inverter at each module. Both can provide module-level monitoring and rapid shutdown when properly designed -- they are different architectures rather than one being the upgrade of the other.
