The roof was a complete tear-off – a single layer stripped to the sheathing and hauled away, then 3,600 square feet of new composition shingle in hickory with a 50-year warranty. The array is 25 panels making 8 kW into a SolarEdge inverter with optimizers, estimated at 9,333 kilowatt hours in the first year, and JCP&L interconnected it in March of 2020. Booking both together is what makes the arithmetic work: a 50-year roof underneath a 25-year array means the panels should never have to come off and go back on partway through their life.
