Brandon Dennis has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since May of 2022. The array was signed on the 30th and the roof the following day. The roof was finished on 10 June 2022 and the panels went on in August.
2,300 square feet, stripped to the deck
A single layer of old shingles came off down to the sheathing and left with the dumpster. Deck protection went over the exposed sheathing, then a GAF Timberline HDZ system in Charcoal carrying a 50-year warranty, aluminum drip edge along 233 feet of rakes and eaves, and a ridge vent along the peak.
A skylight measured before anything was ordered
A skylight was part of this roof, and the record carries its actual opening — 26.5 inches by 36.5, measured inside the room from sheetrock to sheetrock. That is the number that matters and it is the one nobody can obtain from outside: a skylight is bought to fit a hole in the framing, not to match the glass that happens to be sitting in it. Taking the measurement before ordering rather than on the morning of the tear-off is the difference between a skylight that goes straight in and a roof left open while somebody drives to a supplier.
18 panels and 6.66 kW
Eighteen REC 370 watt panels came to 6.66 kW on Snap-N-Rack mounting, finished on 10 August 2022, running into a SolarEdge SE6000H HD Wave inverter with an optimizer on every panel. JCP&L is the utility and the first year was designed for about 7,000 kWh.
Why the roof went first
The array was signed one day and the roof the next, which is the order that tells you what the survey found. An array is bolted down for twenty-five years and more, and a roof at the end of its life underneath one turns into a second job later — panels off, roof on, panels back. Doing the roof first, two months ahead, settled the shingles, the deck and the skylight in a single visit and left the panels nothing to sit on but a new roof.
