Green Sun Energy Services installed a Generac standby generator at a home in Ocean Township for a client since June of 2024, commissioned in October. This installation sits closer to its calculated limit than most. The house runs to 3,158 square feet and carries an unusually heavy electrical load: an electric cooktop and a double electric oven, three refrigerators, two sump pumps, a dishwasher, a microwave, and a washer with a gas dryer. Worked through under the National Electrical Code, that came to a minimum of 21 kW, and the installed machine delivers exactly 21 kW on natural gas. There is no spare capacity built in, which is why the load survey has to be right rather than roughly right. A whole-house transfer switch rated at 200 amps carries the full service, and total gas demand with the generator running comes to 711 cubic feet per hour. The gap between contract and commissioning reflects the gas work: a dedicated 1.25 inch hard line had to be run from the meter to the generator position, with shut-off valves at both ends, before anything could be started. The service plan covers annual maintenance, an extended parts and labor warranty, and monitoring managed by Green Sun.

Do generator requirements in Ocean differ from the next town over?
The manufacturer's equipment requirements do not change when you cross a municipal boundary into Ocean, but local zoning can. A township may impose its own side-yard and rear-yard setbacks, mechanical-equipment rules, screening, noise requirements and floodplain provisions. That is why every property gets a municipal zoning review rather than a general answer.
Can a generator be raised on a platform?
Yes. Manufacturer guidance specifically covers installations on platforms and other supporting structures, and directs them to the applicable fire-safety standard, including a noncombustible surface extending beyond the generator for the configuration addressed. Flood and structural requirements have to be satisfied as well.
How is a standby generator grounded?
The grounding and bonding arrangement depends on the transfer-switch configuration, and in particular on whether the neutral is switched and the generator therefore treated as a separately derived system. It is designed by a qualified electrical contractor rather than assumed from another installation.
