David from Middletown, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2024. The generator was commissioned that November, sized against a 17 kW calculation for the 2,400 square foot house. The load survey is the reason for that figure rather than the floor area: three refrigerators and two separate freezers, plus an electric range and oven, an electric dryer, a washer and a dishwasher. Five pieces of cold storage is the most on any survey we have written up, and it changes what an outage costs – a long one without power is not an inconvenience here but the loss of everything in five appliances. The generator is supported by annual maintenance, a seven-year extended parts-and-labor warranty, and monitoring we manage.

Standby generator questions from Middletown homeowners
Does new gas piping have to be pressure tested in Middletown?
Yes. Gas piping subject to the adopted fuel-gas code must be inspected and tested before it is accepted. New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code, which governs the inspection, the test pressure and how long the test has to hold.
Does the clearance apply to a fixed window as well as one that opens?
A permanently fixed pane may be treated differently from an operable window, because the concern in the placement guidance is exhaust and carbon monoxide entering the building. Even so, the installer has to evaluate the exact model's manual and everything nearby -- operable windows, doors, vents, fresh-air intakes, window wells and mechanical openings. A fixed window should never simply be assumed acceptable.
Can it start during a brownout when the power is not fully off?
Yes. The controller monitors whether the utility supply is acceptable, not merely whether voltage is present, so it can start while some lights and appliances still appear to be working. That is usually the explanation when a generator runs during severe utility-voltage problems.
