Robert from Middletown, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since March of 2020. The generator was installed by another company and commissioned in March of 2019, and the servicing came to us a year later – early enough that the first-year service was our first visit rather than a catch-up. Every interval since has been kept: the two-year in 2021, the three-year in 2022, the four-year in 2023 and the five-year service booked in January of 2024. Servicing in the depth of winter is deliberate on this account, and it is the right instinct – a generator that has just been looked at is far likelier to start when the January storm arrives than one waiting for a spring appointment. An annual maintenance plan covers the visit.

Standby generator questions from Middletown homeowners
Does the residential building code apply to a generator?
It can. For applicable one- and two-family dwellings New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Residential Code, subject to state amendments. Structural and flood-related generator installations may therefore need review under the residential subcode as well as the electrical and fuel requirements.
Can an existing propane tank be reused for a new generator?
Possibly. Existing propane equipment can be reused when it is correctly sized, sited, regulated, maintained and capable of supplying the demand the generator adds. The propane supplier should verify capacity and regulator performance before the machine is commissioned rather than after.
Can a standby generator be used instead of utility power?
Residential standby generators are intended for backup during outages rather than as a permanent substitute for normal utility service. Running through an extended outage is expected, but maintenance requirements become considerably more important during prolonged continuous use.
