Six hundred watts of margin
This is a 4,800 square foot house, and its electrical calculation comes to 24,888 watts. Two three-ton air conditioners account for 6,000 of that and are managed, which brings the figure the generator has to hold to 18,888 watts.
The machine is a Generac Guardian 22 kW home standby, model 7043-2, and it delivers 19.5 kW on natural gas, which is what this house runs on. So the number it carries and the number it makes are about six hundred watts apart.
That is a deliberate result rather than a lucky one. The NEC calculation for this property asks for a minimum of 19 kW on natural gas, and the machine clears it — but not by much, and not by accident: the transfer switch carries three management modules, two rated at 50 amps and one at 100, and without them there is no version of this house that a 22 kW generator covers.
What that buys is a house where nothing visible changes during an outage. Two sump pumps, two refrigerators, the pool filter, the electric dryer, the dishwasher, the microwave, the washer, the garage door and two gas furnaces all keep running. The air conditioning is the only thing asked to wait, and only while something heavier is drawing.
The transfer switch is service-rated at 200 amps and stands outdoors beside the meter. The generator was commissioned on 23 February 2021 and was last serviced on 11 August 2026.
6,942 square feet washed in April
On 27 April 2026 we soft washed 6,942 square feet of exterior. The work is done by the solution rather than by force: a sodium hypochlorite and surfactant mix applied at low pressure, left to kill the algae and mildew growing on the surface, then rinsed off. Pressure alone strips the staining and leaves the growth rooted in place, so it returns within a season.
