Victor from Holmdel, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2020. His 22 kW Generac from the 7000 series has been on our PowerBase Silver plan for six years. Silver is deliberately unglamorous: a technician comes on schedule, changes the oil and filters, tests the battery, checks the transfer switch and runs the unit under load, and then leaves. Nothing about that is exciting until the night the grid fails. Holmdel is in Monmouth County.

Thank you for the five stars. The 22 kW Generac at your home in Holmdel has been in since 2019 and on an annual service plan ever since, which is why there is nothing to report. A generator that never surprises anyone is one that has been looked after, and we intend to keep it that way.

Standby generator questions from Holmdel homeowners
Does a 200-amp service need a 200-amp transfer switch?
A transfer switch installed in the service path has to be rated appropriately for the service and the configuration. A 200-amp service commonly uses a 200-amp service-rated switch, but the actual design is confirmed by the electrician rather than assumed from the service size.
Can the generator stay connected during a pressure test?
The machine has to be protected from test pressures beyond what its fuel controls are built to withstand. The fuel-gas code sets out when appliances are disconnected or isolated for testing, and the plumbing contractor follows both that code and the generator's installation instructions.
Can Holmdel require a generator to sit farther from the house than the manufacturer does?
Yes. Another applicable requirement can result in greater separation than the manufacturer's listed minimum -- equipment may be permitted eighteen inches from a qualifying wall while the local ordinance requires several feet from a property line. Both requirements have to be satisfied; neither cancels the other.
