Beverly in Farmingdale has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since April of 2017. The standby generator went in that June and we came back to wash the house in the spring of 2026.
A double oven on a 150-amp service
A double electric oven is the load that catches people out when they size a generator. It is not large in the way an air conditioner is large, but it is sustained, it runs at the times of year when the power is most likely to go, and it is exactly what a household expects to be able to use on a holiday when the lights are out.
This is a 2,100 square foot house on a 150-amp service, and the electrical calculation comes to 17,568 watts with the oven, a separate freezer, a refrigerator, the dishwasher, the microwave, the washer and a garage door on the list. The one four-ton air conditioner accounts for 4,000 watts of it and is the load that stands down while the generator is running, which brings what the machine holds to 13,568 watts.
The machine is a Generac Guardian 16 kW home standby in an aluminum enclosure, model 7035, rated 16 kW on natural gas and on propane alike, and this house runs on natural gas. It sits behind a 150-amp service-rated transfer switch in the garage, matched to the service rather than to the generator.
That is the arrangement working as intended: the oven stays available, the air conditioning waits, and nothing in the house had to be rewired to make it fit.
The generator was commissioned on 29 June 2017 and was last serviced on 7 July 2026.
3,888 square feet washed in April
On 29 April 2026 we soft washed 3,888 square feet of the exterior. The work is done by the solution rather than by force: a sodium hypochlorite and surfactant mix at low pressure, left to kill the algae and mildew growing on the surface, then rinsed off. Pressure alone lifts the staining and leaves the growth in place, which is why a pressure-washed house is green again the following year.

Because it comes from the manufacturer's tested and listed installation configuration. Applicable units are listed and labelled for installation as close as eighteen inches to a structure, subject to openings and local requirements. New Jersey adopts the National Electrical Code, which requires listed equipment to be installed in accordance with the instructions attached to that listing -- so the eighteen inches is a tested dimension, not a rule of thumb.
