Generator in Lincroft, NJ | 26 kW Generac Whole-House Standby

Lincroft, NJ · Client since September 2026

A 26/24 kW Generac standby generator:

Dan in Lincroft, NJ had Green Sun Energy Services install a Generac 26/24 kW natural gas standby generator in September of 2026. The home is served by a 200-amp electrical service, and the system was sized for 3,679 square feet of living space. Fuel comes from natural gas.

The transfer arrangement is a managed whole-house setup using a Generac 200-amp Service Entrance Rated Automatic Transfer Switch with an Integrated Surge Protection Device (Model G0099280). When JCP&L power goes out, the switch detects the outage and signals the generator to start, then transfers the full load automatically. Because it is a whole-house configuration, Dan does not have to decide which circuits stay live — everything comes back on. Three Load Management Modules are wired in to handle three 60-amp devices, giving the generator’s control system the ability to shed those large loads automatically if demand approaches capacity, then restore them once headroom allows. That keeps the unit from being overloaded without requiring any manual action.

The generator itself is the Generac Model 7327, a Next Generation Air-Cooled unit with cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth connectivity built in. That connectivity lets Dan check status and receive alerts remotely. The unit sits on a 5,000 PSI precast concrete pad measuring 54″ × 32″ × 3″ and weighing 190 pounds. A 12-volt start battery rounds out the package.

Grounding for this installation required #4 AWG copper wire run from the water main to the service entrance main. To meet NJAC 5:23-3.16, the installation also includes two grounding rods and an intersystem bonding bridge.

The installation is backed by a 5-year limited workmanship warranty from Green Sun Energy Services and a 5-year limited warranty from Generac.

Green Sun also enrolled Dan in a generator service plan. The plan includes an annual maintenance visit and an extended parts-and-labor warranty, so the equipment gets looked after on a regular schedule and covered parts are not a separate out-of-pocket cost if something needs attention between visits.

Standby generator questions from Lincroft homeowners

Does the transfer switch need flood protection as well as the generator?

Yes. A flood review should cover much more than the generator enclosure. FEMA recommends that a residential standby system consider elevation or protection of the generator, the transfer switch, the normal and emergency panels, the feeders and the control wiring together.

How close to the house can a generator sit in Lincroft?

For the air-cooled models covered by the manufacturer's listed installation guidance, the rear of the generator can be as close as eighteen inches to a qualifying structure when every condition of that listing is met. That eighteen inches is a tested installation dimension, not a zoning setback, and a municipality can require more.

Can a standby generator be used instead of utility power?

Residential standby generators are intended for backup during outages rather than as a permanent substitute for normal utility service. Running through an extended outage is expected, but maintenance requirements become considerably more important during prolonged continuous use.
