The array is thirty-four JinkoSolar 430-watt panels, 14.62 kW in total, on Unirac mounting with an Enphase IQ8 microinverter behind each one. Estimated first-year production is 18,204 kWh and the utility is JCP&L. It was commissioned on 13 November 2025.

The production estimate carries a condition, and it is the sort worth stating rather than burying: it assumes a large tree in the back yard is removed. Shading is not a fixed property of a roof — it is a property of a roof and everything growing near it, and a tree that clears the array in November will not in July, nor in five years. An estimate written against a clear sky is a forecast about the garden as much as about the equipment.

Resilience first, consumption second

Most households do this the other way round. Solar answers a question about the electricity bill, and some years later a storm supplies a second question that the panels turn out to have nothing to say about — because a grid-tied array shuts down the instant the utility fails, and has to, so that it cannot energise a line a crew is working on.

This household started from the other end. The backup was already in place and already being maintained; what came later was the decision to do something about ordinary consumption as well. Arriving in that order has one practical advantage: by the time the array was designed, three and a half years of service visits had established exactly what the electrical service looked like and what the house actually draws — which is a better foundation for sizing an array than a first visit and a utility bill.
