Soft washing is not power washing. The surfaces are treated with a sodium hypochlorite and surfactant solution that kills the organic growth – the dark streaking that spreads across a shaded roof slope, the green film that creeps up siding on the north side of a house – and then rinsed at low pressure. Nothing is blasted. On a roof that matters more than it sounds: high-pressure water strips the mineral granules off asphalt shingles, and a shingle without its granules is a shingle aging early. At 10,659 square feet this was the bulk of the exterior rather than a spot treatment.
1,337 C9 bulbs on the roofline
The holiday installation followed in November – 1,337 commercial-grade C9 bulbs in multi-color, supplied by Green Sun and run along the roofline. C9 is the large traditional bulb, and at that count the line follows the full perimeter of the house rather than the front elevation alone.
Washed first, then lit
Both jobs are the same rooflines, the same access and the same ladders, which is the plain reason one contractor doing both is less disruptive than two. It also put them in a sensible order. The decorations went up against a surface cleaned five months earlier rather than one carrying a full season of growth, and the crew working the eaves in November had already been over every foot of them in June.
