Shane from Rumson, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since June of 2025. His house wears cedar shakes, which need a gentler approach than vinyl does, so we used our cedar package: low pressure and a cleaning solution that lifts the algae and salt film without stripping the wood or driving water behind it. The whole job took a single day in July. Rumson is in Monmouth County, close to the water, where shakes go grey and green faster than anywhere inland.

Exterior cleaning questions from Rumson homeowners
What should a Rumson homeowner look for in an exterior cleaning company?
One that treats exterior cleaning as a material-specific process rather than as pressure washing. That means inspecting the property, identifying both the surfaces and the contamination, protecting the landscaping before and after, applying at low pressure on anything delicate, choosing the chemistry for the material, controlling the dwell time, rinsing appropriately, following the shingle manufacturer's roof-cleaning guidance and the siding manufacturer's instructions, treating windows carefully, protecting paver joints, working safely off ladders, cleaning up, and walking the finished job with the homeowner. The useful question is not who has the strongest machine but whether the company knows what the house is made of and the safest way to clean each part of it.
Is pressure washing safe for concrete?
Concrete is generally much better suited to controlled pressure washing than siding or roofing, but it can still be damaged. Improper pressure can etch the surface, expose aggregate, leave wand marks and damage weak concrete. Young, deteriorated or decorative concrete requires additional care.
Do windows and doors need to be closed?
Yes, fully, before the crew starts. Any window that is already damaged, or that does not close properly, is worth pointing out during the walk-round rather than after. Exterior cleaning addresses the outside of the glass; interior window cleaning is a separate service.
