Brian in Middletown has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since April of 2017. The array went up the following month, and the standby generator already on the property came onto our books later that year.

50 panels, two inverters, 16 kW

Fifty LG 320-watt panels, 16 kW in total, on QuickMount rails with an optimizer on every panel, feeding a pair of SolarEdge SE6000A HD Wave inverters. Estimated first-year production is 20,070 kWh and the utility is JCP&L. It was commissioned on 10 May 2017, five and a half weeks after the contract was signed.

Fifty panels is a large residential array, and getting from contract to commissioning in under six weeks on a system that size is unusually quick — the permitting and interconnection on an array this large more often runs to months rather than weeks.

The generator on the property

The standby machine here was not installed by us. It was commissioned in November 2013 by another company, and its servicing came onto our books in October 2017 on a PowerBase Silver plan.

There is no service visit recorded against it since. A page like this one should say that plainly rather than imply cover that the record does not evidence: the plan was taken, and what happened afterwards is not in the file.

Equipment outlasts owners

This property has had more than one household on it during the period these two systems have been running, which is the ordinary condition of a house and the thing solar and standby power are least designed for.

A twenty-year array and a generator with a twenty-year service life are both bought by somebody who is thinking about the next decade in that house. Some of those people will move within five years, and the equipment stays exactly where it is — still producing, still starting itself every week, and now owned by somebody who did not choose it, did not meet the installer, and has no idea what was agreed.

That is the practical case for the documentation being somebody’s job rather than nobody’s. What is on this roof, who made it, what the inverters are, when the generator was commissioned and by whom, what plan it was put on and when — all of it sits in one place and survives the sale of the house, which is more than can be said for the folder in the kitchen drawer.

It is also why the honest answer above matters. A record that says nothing since 2017 is more useful to whoever owns this house than a page that quietly implies otherwise.
