Solar questions from West Orange homeowners
Does production have to match usage every month?
No. New Jersey net metering works over an annualised period rather than month by month, so credits accumulated in high-production months are available during the low-production ones.
How much does shade from mature West Orange trees affect production?
Shade can materially reduce production, particularly when it falls during the highest-production hours. Module-level electronics such as microinverters and optimizers reduce the effect of partial shading, but they cannot create sunlight where there is none. Significant shade should be modelled before any annual production figure is quoted.
How are the roof penetrations waterproofed?
