A 22 kW Honeywell standby generator:
In October of 2026, Green Sun Energy Services installed a Honeywell 22/19.5 kW natural-gas standby generator at Luis’s home in Howell Township, NJ. The home is served by a 200-amp electrical service, and the system was sized for 2,068 square feet of living space.
The transfer arrangement is a managed whole-house setup using a customer-supplied 200-amp service-entrance-rated automatic transfer switch. When JCP&L power goes out, the switch detects the outage and signals the generator to start, then transfers the full load automatically. Because it is a whole-house configuration, Luis does not have to decide which circuits stay live — everything comes back on. One Load Management Module is wired in to handle one 60-amp device; if the generator’s demand approaches its limit while that load is running, the module sheds it automatically and restores it once headroom allows, without any manual action.
The generator itself is the Honeywell (Old Guardian Series) Model 7235, rated at 22 kW on liquid propane and 19.5 kW on natural gas — here running on natural gas. It is fitted with the Evolution 2.0 controller, which provides Wi-Fi connectivity so Luis can check status and receive alerts remotely using a customer-supplied connection. A 12-volt battery handles the engine start. The unit sits on a 5,000 PSI precast concrete pad measuring 54″ × 32″ × 3″ and weighing 190 lbs.
Installation included up to 20 feet of electrical work and 20 feet of plumbing. Grounding followed NJAC 5:23-3.16: one grounding rod and an intersystem bonding bridge were installed, along with #4 AWG green-jacket copper ground wire and #4 AWG copper bonding from the water main to the service main. A PSP service-entrance-rated surge protector rated at 100,000 surge amps was installed as well; it carries a lifetime warranty with down-line protection coverage and is required on all new service mains.
On the warranty side, the installation carries a 3-year limited manufacturer’s warranty from Generac and a 5-year limited workmanship warranty from Green Sun Energy Services. An additional 7-year extended warranty was included at no charge.
Luis also has a service plan in place that covers annual maintenance visits and an extended parts-and-labor warranty, keeping the generator looked after on a regular schedule. Green Sun can help walk through available financing options and any incentive programs that may apply — the lender makes all credit and rate decisions.

Standby generator questions from Howell homeowners
How close to the house can a generator sit in Howell?
For the air-cooled models covered by the manufacturer's listed installation guidance, the rear of the generator can be as close as eighteen inches to a qualifying structure when every condition of that listing is met. That eighteen inches is a tested installation dimension, not a zoning setback, and a municipality can require more.
What is a service-entrance-rated transfer switch?
One that is listed for use as service equipment when installed in the appropriate configuration. These are commonly used for whole-house systems, where the transfer switch becomes part of the home's service arrangement rather than sitting downstream of it.
Does the generator need its own gas shutoff?
The fuel installation has to include the shutoff arrangements required by the adopted fuel-gas code and by the installation instructions. The valve must be positioned where it is accessible, both for servicing and for isolating the machine in an emergency.
