Standby Generator in Manalapan, NJ | 28/25 kW Generac Natural Gas

Manalapan, NJ · Client since October 2026

A 28/25 kW Generac standby generator:

Phil in Manalapan, NJ had Green Sun Energy Services install a Generac 28/25 kW natural gas standby generator in October of 2026. The home is served by a 300-amp electrical service, and the system was sized for 3,931 square feet of living space.

The transfer arrangement is a managed whole-house setup using a Generac 300-amp Automatic Smart Transfer Switch with Power Management, configured as a service disconnect. When JCP&L power goes out, the switch detects the outage and signals the generator to start, then transfers the full load automatically. Because it is a whole-house configuration, Phil does not have to decide which circuits stay live — everything comes back on. Two Load Management Modules are wired in to handle two 60-amp devices, giving the generator’s control system the ability to shed those large loads automatically if demand approaches capacity, then restore them once headroom allows. That keeps the unit from being overloaded without requiring any manual action.

The generator itself is the Generac Next Generation Air-Cooled model, Model 7282, rated at 28 kW on liquid propane and 25 kW on natural gas — here running on natural gas. Connectivity is built in: the unit includes cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth capability, so Phil can monitor status remotely. The generator sits on a 5,000 PSI precast concrete pad measuring 54″ x 32″ x 3″ and weighing 190 pounds. A 12-volt start battery is included.

Whole-house surge protection is provided by a PSP (HGEN-160-SER-UL1449) unit rated to handle surges up to 100,000 amps. It protects the transfer switch, the electrical panel, and the rest of the home’s equipment, and it carries a lifetime warranty with downstream protection coverage from PSP.

The installation package included up to 20 feet of electrical work and up to 20 feet of plumbing. Compliance with NJAC 5:23-3.16 required the crew to install one grounding rod and an intersystem bonding bridge, one water heater jumper, and three water-main bonding clamps, along with 36 feet of #2 AWG copper running from the water main to the service main — work that added roughly one hour of labor. The ground wire itself is #2 AWG green-jacketed copper.

The installation is covered by a 5-year limited warranty from Generac and a 5-year limited workmanship warranty from Green Sun Energy Services.

Standby generator questions from Manalapan homeowners

Does the generator need its own gas shutoff?

The fuel installation has to include the shutoff arrangements required by the adopted fuel-gas code and by the installation instructions. The valve must be positioned where it is accessible, both for servicing and for isolating the machine in an emergency.

Do generator requirements in Manalapan differ from the next town over?

The manufacturer's equipment requirements do not change when you cross a municipal boundary into Manalapan, but local zoning can. A township may impose its own side-yard and rear-yard setbacks, mechanical-equipment rules, screening, noise requirements and floodplain provisions. That is why every property gets a municipal zoning review rather than a general answer.

Can a standby generator run central air conditioning?

Yes, when it is sized for it. The design has to account for both the running demand and the starting surge of the air-conditioning equipment. Load-management equipment can be used where necessary so that demand does not all arrive at once.
