Rich from Hazlet, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2019. The 10 kW standby generator at the house was installed by another company in September of 2013, and Rich moved its servicing to us six years later. Every interval since has been carried out, the most recent completed in May of 2026 with 179.3 hours on the meter and the fuel plenum inspected and clear of rust, along with two repairs made under the manufacturer’s warranty and a pair of service calls. The generator remains under one of our annual service plans. Warranty work is the part people rarely consider when choosing who services a machine: the cover belongs to Generac, but somebody has to diagnose the fault, file the claim and carry out the repair.

Standby generator questions from Hazlet homeowners
What size standby generator does a Hazlet home need?
The correct size is decided by the electrical loads the generator is expected to run, not by the square footage of the house. Central air, heat pumps, electric heat, well and sump pumps, refrigerators and freezers, electric ranges and dryers, pool equipment and EV chargers all count. Where a load is connected automatically, the generator either has the capacity for it or an approved load-management system controls it.
Can the generator be connected to any nearby gas pipe?
No. The branch supplying the generator has to be sized for the flow and pressure the machine needs. A pipe that happens to be close by may be too small, or may already be carrying too much load. Undersized piping shows up as poor starting, unstable running, reduced output or a generator that shuts down under load.
Why does cold weather matter when sizing a propane tank?
Because propane's ability to vaporise falls as the outdoor temperature drops and as the liquid level in the tank falls. A supply that looks adequate in mild weather can struggle to support a large generator through a long winter outage if storage and vaporisation capacity were not designed for it.
