Green Sun Energy Services installed a Generac standby generator at a home in Red Bank for a client since June of 2024, commissioned at the end of August. The job made use of what was already in place: control and power wiring had been run into the attic previously, so rather than pull new cable through the house the existing 18/7 control wire and aluminum feeders were kept and extended by about seventy feet to reach the generator position. Less disruption, and less of the cost going into work nobody ever sees. The 2,500 square foot house carries a double electric oven, two sump pumps, two refrigerators, a gas dryer and washer, a dishwasher and a microwave. That double oven is the reason the numbers land where they do — electric cooking is one of the heaviest intermittent loads in any home. The National Electrical Code calculation set a minimum of 16 kW; the installed machine delivers 19.5 kW on natural gas through a 200 amp transfer switch carrying the whole house, so no circuits had to be prioritized over others. Total gas demand including the generator came to 676 cubic feet per hour. Annual maintenance, an extended parts and labor warranty and Green Sun managed monitoring are all covered by the service plan.

Why do outages last longer on some Red Bank streets than others?
