Green Sun Energy Services installed a Generac standby generator at a home in Atlantic Highlands for a client since June of 2024, with the machine commissioned the following month. This one runs the whole house rather than a selected group of circuits: the automatic transfer switch is rated at 200 amps and carries the full service, so nothing has to be chosen in advance and nothing is left off during an outage. Sizing came from the load survey rather than the square footage. The 2,650 square foot house has a gas dryer and washer, two refrigerators, a freezer, a dishwasher, two microwaves and a sump pump, which set a minimum of 16 kW under the National Electrical Code; the installed unit delivers 21 kW on natural gas, leaving headroom above the calculated figure. The gas load was worked out at 676 cubic feet per hour in total, generator included, so the meter and line could carry the machine alongside everything else. The sump pump matters more than it sounds this close to the bayshore, since the weather that takes the power out is usually the weather filling the basement. The service plan covers annual maintenance, an extended parts and labor warranty, and remote monitoring managed by Green Sun.
