Two Generator Services in Skillman, NJ

Skillman, NJ · Client since August 2020

Santi from Skillman, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2020. The generator was installed by another company and commissioned in January of 2015, and the servicing came to us five years later. We ran the first-year service in August of 2020 and the two-year service in October of 2021. The interval names track running hours rather than the calendar, which is why a machine five years old was still due its early-interval work – a standby generator that has rarely been called on accumulates hours very slowly, and the schedule follows the hours rather than the birthday.

Standby generator questions from Skillman homeowners

Does a generator in Skillman have to sit twelve inches above the flood elevation?

That figure should not be treated as a universal rule without looking at the actual property. The required elevation can depend on the flood-zone designation, the municipal freeboard, the Design Flood Elevation, Coastal A or V Zone conditions, NJDEP requirements and the applicable building-code provisions. Each flood-zone installation is worked out individually.

Can the generator stay connected during a pressure test?

The machine has to be protected from test pressures beyond what its fuel controls are built to withstand. The fuel-gas code sets out when appliances are disconnected or isolated for testing, and the plumbing contractor follows both that code and the generator's installation instructions.

Can the generator run the propane tank right down?

It is a poor outage plan. Propane should be monitored and topped up before the generator runs out. Usable capacity is not the same as the tank's nominal water capacity, and cold weather reduces how much vapour the tank can deliver just when the machine is working hardest.
