Standby generator questions from Middletown homeowners
Can the platform height be read off the FEMA flood map?
Not necessarily. The map matters, but it may not carry every elevation the platform design needs. An Elevation Certificate, a surveyed ground elevation, the Base Flood Elevation, the Design Flood Elevation, the local freeboard and the municipal flood ordinance can all bear on it, so the height is calculated for the specific property.
What happens when the utility power comes back?
The system detects the return of acceptable utility power and transfers the house back automatically. The generator then runs through a programmed cool-down before shutting off and returning to standby. Nobody has to switch anything back by hand.
Why does cold weather matter when sizing a propane tank?
Because propane's ability to vaporise falls as the outdoor temperature drops and as the liquid level in the tank falls. A supply that looks adequate in mild weather can struggle to support a large generator through a long winter outage if storage and vaporisation capacity were not designed for it.
