Tyrone Crews has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since June of 2022, when the array was signed and the roof followed five days later. The roof was finished on 31 August 2022 and the panels went on the following morning.
Two layers off, 2,300 square feet on
This roof had been covered over once already, so two layers of old shingle came off down to the sheathing rather than one. Deck protection went over the exposed sheathing, then a GAF Timberline HDZ system in Charcoal carrying a 50-year warranty, aluminum drip edge along 204 feet of rakes and eaves, and a ridge vent along the peak.
The sun room roof was left out, and said so
The contract states in as many words that the sun room roof is not included. That is a small line and it is the right way to write a roofing job. A sun room is usually a different structure with a different deck, a different pitch and often a different material, and quietly folding it into a shingle contract is how a household ends up either with an unexpected extra or with a section nobody agreed who was doing. Naming the exclusion up front means everyone knew, on the day of signing, exactly which roof was being replaced.
22 panels and 8.14 kW
Twenty-two REC 370 watt panels came to 8.14 kW on Snap-N-Rack mounting, finished on 1 September 2022, running into a SolarEdge SE7600H HD Wave inverter with an optimizer on every panel. PSE&G is the utility and the first year was designed for about 10,745 kWh — a little over 1,300 kWh for every kilowatt installed, which is a well-oriented and largely unshaded roof.
One day between the two crews
Roofers off on the Wednesday, solar crew on the Thursday. That is as tightly as these two jobs can be run and it only happens when they are sold together: one survey, one set of drawings, one inspection schedule, and a roofing crew that knew where every array mount was going before the first shingle went down. Sold separately, the same two jobs are two surveys, two permits and a gap measured in months — with the array going onto whatever the roof happens to be at the time.
