The roof came first, finished on 22 December: two layers of old shingle stripped to the sheathing and hauled away, then 2,700 square feet of new composition shingle in fox hollow with a 50-year warranty. The array followed eight days later – 32 panels making 11.2 kW into a SolarEdge inverter with optimizers, and an estimated 9,817 kilowatt hours in the first year. PSEG interconnected it in March. Two layers coming off is the case the tear-off rule exists for: the second was hiding whatever the first had been covering, and the deck underneath is not visible until both are gone.
