Kevin from Middletown, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2021. The generator was commissioned in March of 2022, sized against an 18 kW calculation for the 2,600 square foot house, with an electric dryer and an electric oven among the appliances. One condition was set out plainly before the contract was signed: sections of the sheetrock ceiling would have to be cut open to pull the electrical runs through, with the household responsible for closing them up afterward. That is not a pleasant sentence to put in a quotation, and it is far better there than delivered as a surprise on installation day – a route that looks awkward on a survey is usually awkward in the ceiling too. Annual maintenance, an extended parts-and-labor warranty and monitoring we manage all sit behind the machine.

Standby generator questions from Middletown homeowners
Does the transfer switch need flood protection as well as the generator?
Yes. A flood review should cover much more than the generator enclosure. FEMA recommends that a residential standby system consider elevation or protection of the generator, the transfer switch, the normal and emergency panels, the feeders and the control wiring together.
What does a whole-house generator actually mean?
Whole-house generally means the transfer equipment serves the home's main electrical system rather than a small emergency-circuit panel. It does not promise unlimited capacity. High-demand appliances may still be prioritized or briefly shed while generator capacity is being used elsewhere.
What gas pressure does a generator need?
It is model-specific and has to be read off the specification sheet rather than assumed. A current 22 kW model, for instance, specifies a minimum natural-gas pressure of 3.5 inches water column. Different models carry different requirements.
