Every interval since has been kept – the five-year service in 2019, then 2021, 2022 and onward through the intervals that follow. A machine now in its thirteenth year is well past the age at which most standby generators have been quietly forgotten, and the difference is entirely the record: nothing on it has gone longer than about a year without somebody opening the enclosure and looking. Does new gas piping have to be pressure tested in East Windsor?
Yes. Gas piping subject to the adopted fuel-gas code must be inspected and tested before it is accepted. New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code, which governs the inspection, the test pressure and how long the test has to hold.
Does a generator produce less on natural gas than on propane?
Some models do have a lower rated maximum output on natural gas than on propane -- a current 22 kW machine is rated 22 kW on LP and 21 kW on natural gas. Other models carry their own ratings, so the model-specific specification sheet is what settles it rather than a general rule.
Can a standby generator be used instead of utility power?
Residential standby generators are intended for backup during outages rather than as a permanent substitute for normal utility service. Running through an extended outage is expected, but maintenance requirements become considerably more important during prolonged continuous use.
