16 kW Standby Generator Installation in Farmingdale, NJ | Whole-House Backup

Farmingdale, NJ · Client since May 2020

Joseph from Farmingdale, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since May of 2020. The generator was commissioned that October: a 16 kW Generac Guardian on natural gas, with a 150-amp service-entrance transfer switch mounted inside the garage. The load calculation asked for 15 kW across the 2,269 square foot house, and the electric oven is a fair part of why – an oven pulls steadily and heavily for as long as it is on, which is easy to forget when listing what a house needs during an outage. A refrigerator, washer, gas dryer and dishwasher make up the rest. An annual maintenance visit keeps the machine serviced.

Why Joseph chose Green Sun Energy Services

Complete backup power, from sizing and installation to the service that keeps it ready.

Standby generator questions from Farmingdale homeowners

Does the clearance apply to a fixed window as well as one that opens?

A permanently fixed pane may be treated differently from an operable window, because the concern in the placement guidance is exhaust and carbon monoxide entering the building. Even so, the installer has to evaluate the exact model's manual and everything nearby -- operable windows, doors, vents, fresh-air intakes, window wells and mechanical openings. A fixed window should never simply be assumed acceptable.

Can a standby generator run central air conditioning?

Yes, when it is sized for it. The design has to account for both the running demand and the starting surge of the air-conditioning equipment. Load-management equipment can be used where necessary so that demand does not all arrive at once.

Does new gas piping have to be pressure tested in Farmingdale?

Yes. Gas piping subject to the adopted fuel-gas code must be inspected and tested before it is accepted. New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code, which governs the inspection, the test pressure and how long the test has to hold.
