Diane from Atlantic Highlands, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2024. The generator was commissioned that November: a Generac Guardian rated 19.5 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp service-entrance switch with three smart management modules and surge protection. The load calculation asked for 14 kW across the 2,490 square foot house, so there is a wide margin over the requirement. Atlantic Highlands sits on the highest ground on the Atlantic coast south of Maine, and elevation cuts both ways – the flooding risk is lower than the bayfront towns nearby, but the wind exposure is considerably worse, and wind is what brings the lines down. The generator is supported by annual maintenance, an extended parts-and-labor warranty, and monitoring we manage.

It took quite a while but getting my Generac was well with the wait. From getting all the approvals, then installing and setting up my Generac was seamless. Glen Koedding and his team were highly professional, patient and very friendly. I am comfortable knowing that my home will be comfortable should an outage should occur. All I can say is thank you!
Standby generator questions from Atlantic Highlands homeowners
Can a generator be installed in a flood zone in Atlantic Highlands?
Yes, but the generator and its electrical equipment may need to be elevated or otherwise protected. The installation is evaluated against the property's FEMA flood zone, its Base Flood Elevation and Design Flood Elevation, the municipal flood ordinance, any applicable freeboard, and NJDEP requirements where they apply. It is a property-by-property assessment rather than a rule of thumb.
Should gas pressure be checked while the generator is running?
Yes. Operating pressure means more than a static reading taken with the generator off. The fuel system has to hold adequate pressure while the generator runs and other appliances may also be drawing gas. That matters most when an existing residential service is being reused.
Will a 22 kW generator run an entire Atlantic Highlands house?
For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.
