10 kW Standby in Long Branch: A Failed Battery Caught on the First Visit

Faith from Long Branch, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2019. The 10 kW Generac standby was installed by another company in February of 2013, and in 2019 the servicing switched to Green Sun. The first visit that August found the machine would not crank: the battery terminals were badly corroded and had to be repaired, and the battery was holding 40 percent of its charge where 60 is the minimum. A standby generator can sit for months looking perfectly healthy and then fail on the one night it is needed, and the battery is the usual reason, which is most of the argument for having someone open it up once a year. It has been serviced every year since, most recently in February of 2026 at 152 hours on the meter, and the transfer switch carries a dedicated set of essential circuits.
