18 kW Generac Generator for Kevin in Sea Girt, NJ

Sea Girt, NJ · Client since February 2021

Kevin from Sea Girt, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since February of 2021. The generator was commissioned that December: 18 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp service-entrance switch with three smart management modules, sized against a 17 kW calculation for the 3,300 square foot house. Ten months separated the contract from the commissioning, which was the shape of generator work through that period – the permit, the utility gas connection and the equipment lead time all ran in sequence rather than together. Sea Girt sits directly on the ocean, where a storm that takes the power out is usually the same storm carrying salt across everything left outdoors. Annual maintenance, an extended parts-and-labor warranty and monitoring we manage all sit behind it.

Standby generator questions from Sea Girt homeowners

Can a generator be installed in a flood zone in Sea Girt?

Yes, but the generator and its electrical equipment may need to be elevated or otherwise protected. The installation is evaluated against the property's FEMA flood zone, its Base Flood Elevation and Design Flood Elevation, the municipal flood ordinance, any applicable freeboard, and NJDEP requirements where they apply. It is a property-by-property assessment rather than a rule of thumb.

Should gas pressure be checked while the generator is running?

Yes. Operating pressure means more than a static reading taken with the generator off. The fuel system has to hold adequate pressure while the generator runs and other appliances may also be drawing gas. That matters most when an existing residential service is being reused.

Will a 22 kW generator run an entire Sea Girt house?

For many homes, yes, but that does not mean every load can run at the same moment. Houses with two central air conditioners, electric heat, EV charging, pool equipment or electric cooking may need load management or a larger machine. The answer comes from a load calculation rather than from the phrase whole house.
