The generator was commissioned in February of 2022: a Generac Guardian rated 21 kW on natural gas, feeding two 200-amp transfer switches with three smart management modules between them. Two service panels is what a 5,500 square foot house tends to end up with, and it changes the job – each panel needs its own switch, and the load management has to work across both so the machine is never asked for more than it can give. The calculation asked for 21 kW, carrying two refrigerators, two dishwashers, a sump pump, a washer, a gas dryer and an electric oven. The generator is supported by annual maintenance, an extended parts-and-labor warranty, and monitoring we manage.

Does the generator start on its own?

Yes. A properly installed standby generator left in AUTO is designed to start automatically when it detects an unacceptable loss of utility power. The transfer system then moves the household loads across, and when acceptable utility power returns it transfers them back and the generator runs through its programmed shutdown.

Why do outages last longer on some Lincroft streets than others?
