The generator was commissioned in March of 2022: a Generac Guardian rated 19.5 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp service-entrance switch with two smart management modules. The load calculation asked for 16 kW across 3,653 square feet, and the pair of pumps is what makes the margin worth paying for – a well pump and a sump pump together mean no water coming into the house and no way to move it out once the power stops. Both also have to start against their own resistance rather than easing into the load, which is the moment a generator is asked for the most.
