Samir Hanna came to Green Sun Energy Services as a referral and has been a client since June of 2022, when the roof and the solar array were bought on the same day. The roof was finished on 2 November 2022 and the array eight days later.
4,100 square feet, stripped to the deck
A single layer of old shingles came off to the sheathing and left with the dumpster. Deck protection went over the exposed sheathing, then a GAF Timberline HDZ system in Charcoal carrying a 50-year warranty, aluminum drip edge along 403 feet of rakes, eaves and valleys, and a ridge vent along the peak.
22 panels and 8.03 kW
Twenty-two REC 365 watt panels came to 8.03 kW on Snap-N-Rack mounting, finished on 10 November 2022, running into a SolarEdge SE7600H HD Wave inverter with an optimizer on every panel. PSE&G is the utility and the first year was designed for about 10,300 kWh — close to 1,300 kWh for every kilowatt installed, which is a well-oriented roof doing what it should.
Monitoring on a cable, not on the wireless
The inverter reports over Ethernet rather than the house wireless. It is a small thing at installation and it is the difference between monitoring that is still working in three years and monitoring that quietly stopped the day somebody changed the wireless password. A system nobody can see is a system nobody notices has a fault.
Why the roof went first
Eight days separated the two jobs. An array is fastened to a roof for twenty-five years and more, so shingles near the end of their life underneath one are a second job with a date already on them — panels off, roof on, panels back. Buying both together settled it in advance, and the panels went onto a roof one week old with a 50-year system beneath them.

The municipal construction department reviews and inspects the work under the Uniform Construction Code, but the substantive electrical requirements come from the statewide Electrical Subcode rather than from local preference. Municipalities may also administer zoning requirements where those apply.

Certain warranties can, subject to that warranty's own conditions and a required notification procedure with its own time limit. It is worth knowing the process before the house goes on the market rather than during the sale, and a transferable warranty is a genuine selling point.
