James Sickoria has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since May of 2023, when a partial solar removal, a new roof and a new array were booked as one job. The roof was finished on 5 June 2023 and the new panels went on that July. Critter guard followed in May of 2026.
Only the back of the house was touched
This is the least common shape of job on the site and the notes set it out precisely: the twenty-four panels on the back of the house came off, along with the two inverters that ran them, and the panels on the front were left exactly where they were. The roof beneath the back array was replaced; the front was not. A house does not always wear out evenly, and there is no rule that says a roof has to be done all at once when only part of it has reached the end.
1,000 square feet, stripped to the deck
A single layer came off down to the sheathing on the section being replaced. Deck protection went over the exposed sheathing, then a GAF Timberline HDZ system carrying a 50-year warranty, aluminum drip edge along 68 feet of rakes and eaves, and a ridge vent along the peak.
14 new panels and 5.88 kW
What went back was not what came off. Fourteen REC 420 watt panels came to 5.88 kW on rail-free mounting, finished on 18 July 2023, running into a SolarEdge SE6000H HD Wave inverter with an optimizer on every panel. Fourteen modern panels in place of twenty-four old ones, on a smaller footprint, is the arithmetic of a decade of panel development: the new array occupies less roof and the roof it occupies is new.
Monitoring on a cable, not the wireless
The inverter reports over a wired connection rather than the house wireless. It is a detail nobody asks for and it is the difference between monitoring that still works in three years and monitoring that stopped the day the wireless password changed. An array nobody is watching is an array whose faults nobody finds.
Critter guard, added three years later
The guard is its own job, booked in May of 2026 and fitted around an array that had been in place since 2023. That is the sequence to avoid where it can be helped. Mesh fitted during an installation goes on while the crew, the ladders and the roof access are already there; fitted afterwards it is a separate visit with the panels already down on the mounts and every edge to be worked around. The work is the same and the circumstances are not.
