Softwash Service
Jessica from Marlboro, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since May of 2026. We soft washed the two-storey house at the end of that month, using a sodium hypochlorite and surfactant solution at low pressure. On a roof this is the only method worth using: the dark streaks that show up on shingles are algae rather than dirt, and the granules that give a shingle its working life sit loosely enough that pressure takes them off along with the growth. Shingle manufacturers specify low-pressure cleaning for precisely that reason. The solution does the work instead, and the roof keeps the surface it was built with.

Exterior cleaning questions from Marlboro homeowners
Does the crew scrub the house?
Most soft-wash cleaning does not require aggressive scrubbing. Where buildup is unusually stubborn, gentle agitation or spot treatment may be appropriate if the material permits it. Asphalt roofing is different: manufacturers and ARMA specifically warn against aggressive brushing of shingles.
How often should a house in Marlboro be soft washed?
There is no required interval. Many homes benefit from cleaning every few years, or whenever visible growth starts to come back. A heavily shaded property near the water may want attention sooner than an open, sunny one. Condition is a better guide than the calendar.
Can pressure washing ruin a deck?
Yes. Too much pressure can create permanent wand marks, raised grain and splintering. Chemistry and lower pressure can often produce a better result than trying to mechanically blast the wood clean.
