Dimitra from Asbury Park, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since September of 2016, and has come back twice since. The generator and the array were booked on the same day and finished within a week of each other. The soft wash came nine years later.

A 16 kW Generac in a steel enclosure

Commissioned on 5 November 2016. The load calculation asked for a minimum of 12 kW under NEC Article 220 Part IV and a 16 kW machine went in, on a 200-amp managed whole-house transfer switch. The house is 2,400 square feet with a refrigerator, a separate freezer, a dishwasher, a washer, a gas dryer and – the detail that matters most here – two sump pumps. A sump that stops during a storm is how a basement floods, and this close to the water the outage and the rain tend to arrive together.

27 panels across four roof faces

Six days later: 27 LG 315-watt modules, 8.51 kW, on a SolarEdge inverter with an optimizer on every panel and rail-free mounting. The array is split across four separate roof faces – 4.73, 2.21, 0.95 and 0.63 kW – which is precisely the situation optimizers exist for. Four orientations mean four different production curves through the day, and without per-panel electronics the weakest face sets the pace for the string it sits on. Estimated at 7,864 kilowatt hours in the first year and interconnected by JCP&L that December. The roof needed nothing.

1,513 square feet of soft washing

July of 2025. Soft washing is low pressure and a cleaning solution rather than a pressure washer, which is what makes it safe on siding – and what makes it the only sensible method on a house carrying an array. A pressure washer aimed anywhere near panels, flashings and conduit is a repair bill waiting to happen. This cleans the house and leaves the system alone.

Why the array and the generator were bought together

They answer opposite questions, and people often assume one covers both. A grid-tied array does not run during an outage – when the grid goes down the inverter shuts down with it, so that nobody working on the lines is fed power from a house. The panels cut the bill and do nothing whatever on the night the power fails, which in a basement with two sump pumps is the night that matters. Booking both on the same day is a household that had already worked that out, and each is still doing the job it was bought to do.

Don't waste your time looking anywhere else. You get what you pay for with Green Sun! Excellent communication through to completion and beyond. Each of their teams performed their work using the highest quality goods so all the solar panels, piping, electrical and plumbing looked extremely slick and neat. They worked with me on placement of the generator, panels and where in the basement to run everything through, even coming back to fine tune some of the work they had done. One of the inspectors for permit approval even added a nice job and a smiley face on the white approval slip. Timeliness and pride in their work was much appreciated. I couldn't be more happier with the work and highly recommend Green Sun!
