Charlotte in Oceanport has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2020. The array was commissioned that December and we soft washed the house in May 2025.
Thirty-three panels, and a condition
Thirty-three LG 340-watt panels went onto the back of this house in two groups — eighteen on the main roof and fifteen over the garage — both at a shallow 22.6-degree pitch on an azimuth of 145 degrees. It is a good roof: the main group has no measured shading at all.
The garage group is the one with a story attached. It carries eight percent shading, and the production estimate for this array was written with an explicit condition on it: that the pine trees behind the garage roof would be cut back below gutter height.
That condition is worth stating rather than quietly leaving in the paperwork, because it is the single most common reason a real array underperforms the number it was sold on. Trees are not a fixed feature. They grow, they grow fastest in exactly the direction that suits them and not you, and a pine that clears a gutter today will not in five years. An estimate that assumes clear sky over a roof is a forecast about landscaping as much as about equipment, and the household is the only one who can hold up their end of it.
The array is 11.22 kW feeding a SolarEdge SE10000H inverter on Ecolibrium mounting, with an optimizer on every panel — which is also why the shaded garage group can sit on the same system as the unshaded main group without holding it back. Estimated first-year production is 15,486 kWh and the utility is JCP&L. It was commissioned on 10 December 2020.
3,780 square feet washed in May
On 12 May 2025 we soft washed 3,780 square feet of the exterior. Soft washing does the work with the solution rather than with force: a sodium hypochlorite and surfactant mix is applied at low pressure, left to kill the algae and mildew growing on the surface, and rinsed off. Pressure alone takes the staining away and leaves the growth rooted in the surface, so it returns within a season.
