Christopher Bosworth has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since April of 2025, when the removal of an existing solar array was booked alongside a new roof. The roof was finished on 24 April 2025.
30 panels off, and taken away
The array was 6.75 kW across 30 panels — 225 watts apiece, which places it in an earlier generation of modules. It came off as a removal rather than a lift and reset: panels, mounting system, inverters, disconnects, the exterior conduit and wiring and the meters, all removed and taken away. The flashings and lag bolts stayed in the roof deliberately, for the roofing crew to pull out with the old shingles, so no fixing was ever taken out of a roof that still had to keep the weather out.
2,700 square feet, stripped to the deck
A single layer of old shingles came off down to the sheathing and left with the dumpster. Deck protection went over the exposed sheathing, then a GAF Timberline HDZ system in Pewter Gray carrying a 50-year warranty, aluminum drip edge along 284 feet of rakes, eaves and valleys, and a ridge vent along the peak.
Removing an array is a job in its own right
It is worth saying plainly that this is work we do on its own terms, not only as the first half of an installation. A household that wants panels off — because the roof has failed, because the array has reached the end of its life, or because it inherited somebody else’s decision with the house — needs someone who will take the array down properly, disconnect it safely, deal with the meters and the conduit, and leave the roof in a state a roofer can work on. That is a different request from wanting solar, and it is a legitimate one.
What the house has now
A deck that has been stripped, seen and covered properly, under a 50-year system, with every old fixing from the previous array taken out rather than shingled over. Whether or not another array ever goes up there, the roof is in the condition it should have been in before the first one did.
