Genie Gonzalez has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since June of 2025, when the roof and the solar array were bought on the same day. The roof was finished on 31 July 2025 and the panels went on four days later.
1,200 square feet, stripped to the deck
This is a compact roof, and the whole of it came off: a single layer of old shingles down to the sheathing, cleaned up and carted away with the dumpster. Deck protection went over the exposed sheathing, then a GAF Timberline HDZ system in charcoal carrying a 50-year warranty, aluminum drip edge along 152 feet of rakes and eaves, and a ridge vent along the peak.
15 panels and 6.38 kW
Fifteen JinkoSolar JKM425N panels at 425 watts each came to 6.38 kW on IronRidge mounting, finished on 4 August 2025, with an Enphase IQ8PLUS microinverter behind every panel. PSE&G is the utility and the first year was designed for about 6,675 kWh.
Four days between the two crews
Roof finished on the Thursday, panels on the Monday. That is about as close together as these two jobs are ever run, and it is only possible because they were sold as one job rather than two: one survey, one set of drawings, one inspection schedule, and a roofing crew that knew exactly where the array was going before the first shingle went down.
Why the roof went first
An array is bolted to a roof for twenty-five years and more, so shingles near the end of their life underneath one are a second job with a date already on them — panels off, roof on, panels back. On a roof of this size that job would take a disproportionate bite out of what the array is there to do. Doing the roof first, four days ahead, removed it entirely.
