Solar Critter Guard

Squirrels and birds get into the gap between the panels and the roof, and most people find out the hard way: chewed wiring, staining down the shingles, or a system that has quietly stopped producing. Critter guard closes that gap with a mesh barrier clipped around the array. These are New Jersey homes where we fitted it, some on the day the panels went up and others years later, after something had already moved in.

119 completed critter guard projects across 78 New Jersey towns, including 21 with a review written by the customer.

Solar Panel Installation in Jackson, NJ | 36 Hanwha Panels, 11.7 kW and 120 Feet of Critter Guard

Stas from Jackson, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2019. Thirty-six Hanwha Q.PEAK DUO 325-watt panels went on the roof that December – 11.7 kW in all, estimated at 13,028 kWh in the first year – on an Ecolibrium rail-free system, with 120 linear feet of critter guard closed around the perimeter. The guard is the part people skip and regret: the gap between panel and roof is exactly the shelter a squirrel is looking for, and the wiring is what gets chewed.

Roofing and Solar Panel Installation in Eatontown, NJ | A 4,600 Square Foot Roof and an 18.48 kW Array

Quality of Life Chiropractic Center in Eatontown, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2023. The roof and the array were bought together in August and installed nine days apart that November. 4,600 square feet of new roof: The old covering came off in a single layer on 19 November 2023 – stripped back to the deck rather than shingled over – and went back on as a GAF Timberline Lifetime system. There are 385 linear feet of rakes, eaves and valleys on the building, and edges are where a roof of this size starts

Solar Panel Installation in Bayville, NJ | 29 LG Panels, 9.7 kW and 152 Feet of Critter Guard

Walter and Barbara from Bayville, NJ have been Green Sun Energy Services clients since September of 2019. Twenty-nine LG 335-watt panels went on the roof that December – 9.715 kW in all, estimated at 12,710 kWh in the first year – on a Unirac rail-free mounting system, with 152 linear feet of critter guard closed around the edge of the array. Rail-free keeps the panels low to the roof plane, and the guard shuts the gap underneath before anything decides to nest in it.

Solar, EV Charger and Generator Service in Red Bank, NJ | 27 Panels, a Charger and a Takeover

Johanna from Red Bank, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since April of 2023. The solar and the charger were ordered within days of each other in the summer of 2023, and the servicing of the generator already at the house moved to Green Sun the following year. 11.34 kW of solar: Twenty-seven REC panels went up in October of 2023, 11.34 kW in total on Snap-N-Rack mounting, with a first-year production estimate of 14,283 kWh. A hundred and ninety-six feet of critter guard was fitted around the array on the same visit, which keeps squirrels and

Solar and Standby Generator Installation in Allentown, NJ | 26 Panels and a 13 kW Generac

Lisa from Allentown, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since November of 2018. The array went up first and the standby generator followed two years later, which is the order most houses arrive at rather than plan for. 8.32 kW of solar: Twenty-six LG panels went on in November of 2018, 8.32 kW in total, with a first-year production estimate of 10,243 kWh. The mounting is a rail-free system, so each panel is carried on its own pair of brackets rather than on a continuous rail — fewer components on the roof and fewer penetrations to seal.

Solar Panel Installation in Hazlet, NJ | 20 Solaria Panels and 120 Feet of Critter Guard

Jakub from Hazlet, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2020. The array was commissioned in November of that year. The design estimate is 8,938 kWh in the first year. Twenty modules at 365 watts each carry an output that took thirty modules of 300 watts on the 2016 installations, which is the practical effect of four years of module development: the same electricity off a good deal less roof.

Standby Generator and Solar Panel Installation in Monroe Township, NJ | 16 kW in February, 25 Panels in March

Michael and Christin from Monroe Township, NJ have been Green Sun Energy Services clients since December of 2017. Two jobs booked together and installed six weeks apart, one to lower what the house draws and one to carry it when the grid stops. A 16 kW standby generator: Commissioned in February of 2018, on natural gas, behind a 150-amp transfer switch. The load survey recorded 3,300 square feet and a sump pump. 7.25 kW of solar: Twenty-five Jinko JKM290M-60 panels followed in March, on Ecolibrium mounting with a SolarEdge inverter. Standby Generator Service and Solar Panel Installation in Parlin, NJ | Critter Guard and an 8 kW Generator

Carl in Parlin has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2019. Neither the generator nor the solar array on this property was installed by us, and both are now looked after by us, which is the whole point of this page. 200 feet of guard around the array: In January 2024 we fitted 200 feet of black PVC-coated critter guard around the existing array, on six-inch posts. The problem it solves is squirrels, and it is worse than most homeowners expect. The gap between a roof-mounted panel and the shingles beneath it is a dry, sheltered,

13.34 kW Solar Array in Basking Ridge, NJ | 29 REC Panels and 200 Feet of Critter Guard

David from Basking Ridge, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2024. Twenty-nine REC 460-watt panels went up that November, 13.34 kW on Snap-N-Rack mounting with a SolarEdge HD Wave inverter, estimated to produce 9,837 kWh in the first year. Two hundred feet of critter guard was fitted around the array at the same time. Most solar owners never think about the gap beneath the panels until something has moved into it, and closing it during the installation is a great deal simpler than clearing a nest out afterwards.

13.34 kW Solar in Piscataway, NJ | 29 REC Panels on Two SolarEdge Inverters

Natasha from Piscataway, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since June of 2024. Twenty-nine REC 460-watt panels went up in September, 13.34 kW on Snap-N-Rack mounting and two SolarEdge inverters, with an estimated 15,122 kWh of production in the first year against a PSE&G supply. Two hundred feet of critter guard was fitted around the array. The roof underneath still has twenty-four years of warranty left, so nothing had to come off and go back on to make room for the panels.

Daniel from Lincroft, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since December of 2020, and the house has taken three trades since. The generator came to us at second hand: another company installed it in November of 2012, and we picked up its servicing eight years later. An 8 kW Generac taken on at year eight: An 8 kW Generac running on natural gas, behind a 35-amp indoor transfer switch in the basement on a 200-amp service. Taking a machine on at eight years is a different proposition from commissioning one. The installer is long out of the
