A 20 kW Generac on twin 200-amp switches

Commissioned on 25 September 2020. The calculation asked for a minimum of 17 kW under NEC Article 220 Part IV and a Generac rated 18 kW on natural gas went in – 20 kW were it running on propane – feeding two 200-amp service-rated transfer switches which between them cover a 400-amp service. Two switches rather than one is simply what 400 amps requires: there is no single residential transfer switch of that size, so the service is split and each half is picked up on its own.

The house is 3,800 square feet with two refrigerators, a dishwasher, a washer and a gas dryer – and, decisively, a well pump and a sump pump. Those two entries make the case for backup power in a single line. Without electricity there is no water coming into the house and no way of moving it out, at the same moment – and the second of those problems tends to arrive during precisely the storm that caused the first.

264 warm white C9 bulbs

October of 2025. Two hundred and sixty-four C9 bulbs in warm white along the roofline, C9 being the large traditional bulb rather than the small modern one, at 2700K – the warm end of white, which reads as light rather than as decoration. Installed for the season and taken down after it.

Questions from Cream Ridge homeowners

Holiday lightingWhat colors are most popular for Cream Ridge homes?

Warm white remains the most popular classic choice. Red and warm white, multicolor, cool white, and custom combinations are also common. The best palette depends on the home's siding, brick, trim, landscaping, and neighborhood style.

Standby generatorDoes a generator need a concrete pad?

Not universally. Approved alternative support systems are permitted for applicable models. Concrete or an engineered platform may still be required because of the site conditions, flood requirements, anchoring, municipal requirements or structural design -- but it is not automatic.

Standby generatorDoes new gas piping have to be pressure tested in Cream Ridge?

Yes. Gas piping subject to the adopted fuel-gas code must be inspected and tested before it is accepted. New Jersey adopts the 2024 International Fuel Gas Code, which governs the inspection, the test pressure and how long the test has to hold.
