David from Oakhurst, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2025. The array was completed in October: 34 panels making 14.62 kW, each with its own Enphase IQ8 microinverter, and an estimated 15,337 kilowatt hours in the first year. JCP&L interconnected it in November. Thirty-four panels producing over fourteen kilowatts works out to 430 watts each, and fifteen thousand kilowatt hours a year is well beyond what a typical household uses – the sort of system that suits a house already running electric heating or charging a car, or one expecting to. The existing roof was sound enough to take the array as it stood.

Solar questions from Oakhurst homeowners
Does Oakhurst decide whether the installation is code-compliant?
The municipal construction department reviews and inspects the work under the Uniform Construction Code, but the substantive electrical requirements come from the statewide Electrical Subcode rather than from local preference. Municipalities may also administer zoning requirements where those apply.
What is a microinverter and why use one per panel?
A microinverter is a small inverter installed at or near an individual module, so each panel converts on its own channel. That gives module-level visibility and limits the effect one underperforming panel has on the others around it.
Why is annual offset the number that matters?
Because the value of net metering is strongest where solar production offsets electricity the household would otherwise have bought. Producing substantially more than a year's consumption means the surplus is ultimately treated differently from the credit that offsets consumption.
