Matt from Middletown, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2020, when the servicing of a generator installed by another company came to us. Four years later he and Maria asked for something with no engineering in it at all.
A 20 kW Generac taken on at seven years
The machine is a 20 kW Generac from the 5800 series, commissioned in February of 2013 by another company, running on natural gas behind a managed whole-house transfer switch. Its servicing came to us in July of 2020, at a little over seven years old.
Seven years is the middle case for a takeover, and the one that most needs doing. The early services are behind it, the original installer’s interest has long since moved on, and whether the machine starts in its fifteenth year comes down entirely to whether somebody has kept opening the enclosure once a year in the meantime. Putting it on our Silver plan is what that amounts to in practice: annual maintenance, on the calendar, by somebody whose job it is to remember.
320 warm white C9 bulbs
November of 2024, and a day on the roofline. Three hundred and twenty C9 bulbs in warm white – the large traditional bulb rather than the small modern one, at 2700K, which is the warm end of white and reads as light rather than as decoration. Up in November, down after the New Year, both ends of it done by us.

Standby generatorCan a generator be installed on a deck or a roof?
Platform, deck and supporting-structure installations are recognized, but they call for additional review: structural capacity, noncombustible surface requirements, fire clearance, exhaust, airflow, vibration, service access and local requirements all have to be addressed. It is a site-specific installation rather than a routine location.
Holiday lightingCan arborvitae be wrapped with Christmas lights?

Standby generatorDoes a generator produce less on natural gas than on propane?
Some models do have a lower rated maximum output on natural gas than on propane -- a current 22 kW machine is rated 22 kW on LP and 21 kW on natural gas. Other models carry their own ratings, so the model-specific specification sheet is what settles it rather than a general rule.
