Solar Panel Installation

No two roofs are the same. The pitch, the shade from the tree next door, the direction the house faces and what the family actually uses through the year all change what belongs up there. These are solar arrays we designed and installed across New Jersey, and each one names the panels, the inverter and the size of the system along with the town it is in. Real jobs on real houses, photographed where we had the chance.

320 completed solar projects across 140 New Jersey towns, including 73 with a review written by the customer.

Solar and Standby Generator Installation in Allentown, NJ | 26 Panels and a 13 kW Generac

Lisa from Allentown, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since November of 2018. The array went up first and the standby generator followed two years later, which is the order most houses arrive at rather than plan for. 8.32 kW of solar: Twenty-six LG panels went on in November of 2018, 8.32 kW in total, with a first-year production estimate of 10,243 kWh. The mounting is a rail-free system, so each panel is carried on its own pair of brackets rather than on a continuous rail — fewer components on the roof and fewer penetrations to seal. […]

Solar Panel Installation in Hazlet, NJ | 20 Solaria Panels and 120 Feet of Critter Guard

Jakub from Hazlet, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2020. The array was commissioned in November of that year. Twenty Solaria 365R-PD panels, 7.3 kW in total, on Ecolibrium mounting with a SolarEdge inverter, and 120 feet of critter guard around the perimeter. The design estimate is 8,938 kWh in the first year. Twenty modules at 365 watts each carry an output that took thirty modules of 300 watts on the 2016 installations, which is the practical effect of four years of module development: the same electricity off a good deal less roof.

Solar Panel Installation in Holmdel, NJ | 36 All-Black LG Panels and 10.8 kW

Charlie from Holmdel, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2016. The array was commissioned that December. Thirty-six LG 300N1K-G4 panels in the all-black finish, 10.8 kW in total, on QuickMount flashed mounts with a SolarEdge inverter and per-panel optimizers. The design estimate is 12,695 kWh in the first year. Optimizers matter on a roof that is not uniformly clear: each panel reports and converts on its own, so a chimney shadow crossing one module in the afternoon takes down that module rather than the whole string it sits in.

Solar Panel Installation in Franklin Township, NJ | 24 Panels and 7.56 kW

Harvey from Franklin Township, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since November of 2016. The array was commissioned in January of 2017. Twenty-four LG 315N1K-G4 panels, 7.56 kW in total, on QuickMount mounting with a SolarEdge inverter and P400 optimizers. The design estimate is 9,811 kWh in the first year. A January commissioning is worth noting: an array switched on at the darkest point of the year gives its owner a full seasonal cycle to watch before the first summer, which is a better way to learn what a roof actually does than a single sunny month.

Solar Panel Installation in Monroe Township, NJ | 30 All-Black Panels and 9 kW

David and Dana from Monroe Township, NJ have been Green Sun Energy Services clients since November of 2016. The array was commissioned in January of 2017. Thirty LG 300N1K-G4 panels in the all-black finish, 9 kW in total, on QuickMount mounting with a SolarEdge inverter and P320 optimizers. The design estimate is 10,611 kWh in the first year. The all-black module is chosen for how it reads from the street rather than for what it produces: black frame, black backsheet, and a roof that looks like one surface instead of a grid of silver rectangles.

Solar Panel Installation in Brick, NJ | 51 Panels and 14.28 kW

Richard and Carol from Brick, NJ have been Green Sun Energy Services clients since December of 2016. The array was commissioned in April of 2017. Fifty-one Hyundai HIS-S280RG-BK panels, 14.28 kW in total, on QuickMount mounting with a SolarEdge HD Wave inverter. The design estimate is 15,938 kWh in the first year. Fifty-one panels puts this among the larger residential arrays on the books. An array of that size is rarely about the roof being big so much as about the house drawing enough to justify filling it, which is a question answered from the electricity record rather than from

Solar Panel Installation in Manalapan, NJ | 45 Panels and 12.15 kW

Anthony from Manalapan, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2016. The array was commissioned that December. Forty-five Hyundai HIS-S270BK panels, 12.15 kW in total, on QuickMount mounting with a SolarEdge inverter and P320 optimizers. The design estimate is 13,323 kWh in the first year. Forty-five modules at 270 watts each is a lot of panels for the output, and that is what a 2016 array looks like. Module wattage has risen a long way since, so a system of this size laid out later covers noticeably less roof for the same result.

Standby Generator and Solar Panel Installation in Monroe Township, NJ | 16 kW in February, 25 Panels in March

Michael and Christin from Monroe Township, NJ have been Green Sun Energy Services clients since December of 2017. Two jobs booked together and installed six weeks apart, one to lower what the house draws and one to carry it when the grid stops. A 16 kW standby generator: Commissioned in February of 2018, on natural gas, behind a 150-amp transfer switch. The load survey recorded 3,300 square feet and a sump pump. 7.25 kW of solar: Twenty-five Jinko JKM290M-60 panels followed in March, on Ecolibrium mounting with a SolarEdge inverter. The design estimate is 9,336 kWh in the first year.

Solar Panel Installation in Jackson, NJ | 36 Hyundai Panels and 10.08 kW

Joe from Jackson, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since December of 2016. The array was commissioned in January of 2017. Thirty-six Hyundai HIS-S280RG-BK panels, 10.08 kW in total, on QuickMount mounting with a SolarEdge inverter and P320 optimizers. The design estimate is 12,447 kWh in the first year. Thirty-six panels is a large residential array, and what makes one possible is uninterrupted roof: the panels have to sit as a continuous block on planes facing the same way, so the shape of the roof sets the ceiling on the system long before anything else does.

Standby Generator Installation and Solar Panel Installation in Manahawkin, NJ | A Kohler Standby and 16 Panels

Alise in Manahawkin has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since January of 2016. The standby generator and the solar array were signed on the same day, which is unusual and, on the evidence of this house, sensible. A Kohler 20 kW in April: Not every standby machine we install is a Generac. This one is a Kohler 20RESB in an aluminum enclosure, rated 20 kW on propane and delivering 18 kW on natural gas, which is what this house runs on. It was commissioned on 15 April 2016. The house is 2,000 square feet on a 200-amp service

6.35 kW Solar in Somerville, NJ | A 2011 Array on Enphase Microinverters

Marc from Somerville, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2011. Twenty-seven Canadian Solar 235-watt panels went up that December on Zep Solar mounting, 6.35 kW estimated at 7,686 kWh in the first year, and the array was interconnected with PSE&G in May of 2012. Every panel has its own Enphase microinverter rather than the whole roof sharing one central inverter, which means shade falling on one panel costs that panel and not the string it sits in.

9.86 kW Solar Array in East Brunswick, NJ | 27 REC Panels, Interconnected in January

Amit from East Brunswick, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since September of 2022. Twenty-seven REC 365-watt panels went up that December, 9.86 kW on Snap-N-Rack mounting with a SolarEdge HD Wave inverter, estimated at 12,839 kWh in the first year. Two hundred feet of critter guard was fitted around the array at the same time. It was interconnected with PSE&G in January of 2023, which is the point at which a finished installation actually starts counting.
