Standby Generator Installation

When the power goes out, a standby generator starts on its own. It is wired into the house and runs on natural gas or propane, so there is nothing to drag out of the garage and nothing to fill in the dark. Below are standby generators we have installed at homes across New Jersey. Each one shows the unit that went in, the transfer switch behind it and the town it is in, and where the homeowner left a review you will find that too. If you are trying to work out what size you need, this is a good place to start.

608 completed standby generator projects across 122 New Jersey towns, including 118 with a review written by the customer.

8 kW Generac standby generator in Hazlet, NJ

8 kW Standby Generator Installation in Hazlet, NJ | An Essential-Circuits Machine on a 50-Amp Switch

Maryann and Robert from Hazlet, NJ have been Green Sun Energy Services clients since October of 2013. A Generac rated 8 kW on propane and 7 kW on natural gas went in that January, running on natural gas behind a 50-amp transfer switch. That is an essential-circuits installation rather than whole-house backup – heat, refrigeration, a few lights and the circuits that matter in a storm – and it went in during a hard winter, which is a difficult time to be working on the outside of a house.

16 kW Generac standby generator in Farmingdale, NJ

16 kW Standby Generator Installation in Farmingdale, NJ | Sized for 1,980 Square Feet on a 200-Amp Switch

Alex from Farmingdale, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2014. A Generac rated 16 kW went in that January, running on natural gas behind a 200-amp automatic transfer switch, with 1,980 square feet of living space behind it on the load survey. The switch takes the whole service rather than a selected group of circuits, so nothing about the house has to be ranked or set aside when the power goes.

16 kW Generac standby generator in Jackson, NJ

16 kW Standby Generator Installation in Jackson, NJ | Sized for 2,550 Square Feet on a 200-Amp Switch

Carol from Jackson, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2020. A Generac Guardian rated 16 kW went in the following March, running on natural gas behind a 200-amp automatic transfer switch. The load survey put 2,550 square feet of living space behind it. The switch is sized to the whole service rather than to a chosen group of circuits, which means nothing had to be decided in advance about which rooms matter during a storm.

16 kW Generac standby generator in Hazlet, NJ

Standby Generator and Solar Panel Installation in Hazlet, NJ | 16 kW in March, 25 Panels in April

Alice and Frank from Hazlet, NJ have been Green Sun Energy Services clients since February of 2018. Two jobs booked together and installed five weeks apart. A 16 kW standby generator: Commissioned in March of 2018, on natural gas, behind a 200-amp transfer switch covering the whole service. The load survey put the house at 1,877 square feet. 8.375 kW of solar: Twenty-five LG 335N1C-A5 panels followed in April, on Ecolibrium mounting with a SolarEdge inverter. The design estimate is 11,049 kWh in the first year. 344 feet of critter guard: Three hundred and forty-four feet is a long run

18 kW Generac standby generator in Morganville, NJ

17 kW Standby Generator Installation in Morganville, NJ | Whole-House Standby With Load Management

Jeannie from Morganville, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2025. The generator was commissioned in January of 2026, rated 17 kW on natural gas where the load calculation asked for 15 kW. The house has a 100-amp service, the smaller end of what a whole-house transfer switch usually sits on, so a load-management module went in alongside it: the electric range and the other large loads are held apart rather than allowed to arrive together. Our top-tier plan supports the machine, with an annual visit, an extended parts-and-labor warranty and monitoring we manage directly.

26 kW Generac standby generator in Howell, NJ

22.5 kW Standby Generator Installation in Howell, NJ | A Replacement Machine, and a Double Oven Set the Number

Lisa from Howell, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2019. The servicing of a standby generator another company had installed came to us that month, and in March of 2024 the machine itself was replaced with a Generac model 7290, rated 22.5 kW on natural gas against a load calculation asking for 22 kW. Most of the 5,200 square feet runs on gas – two furnaces, the cooktop, the water heater and the dryer – so it is the double electric oven that accounts for much of what the generator has to carry.

14 kW Generac standby generator in Farmingdale, NJ

Standby Generator Installation in Farmingdale, NJ | A 14 kW Generator Running Since 2013

Joanne from Farmingdale, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2013, which places them among the oldest relationships on the site. The generator was commissioned that December: 14 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp managed whole-house switch with two priority management modules, for a 2,333 square foot house with an electric oven, a refrigerator, a washer, a gas dryer and a dishwasher. Thirteen years later the machine is still there and still running – which is the whole point of the exercise, and rather longer than most people expect a generator to last. Servicing

14 kW Generac standby generator in Farmingdale, NJ

Standby Generator Installation and Solar Panel Installation in Farmingdale, NJ | In 2012 and a Generator in 2013

Lon in Farmingdale has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2012. The array came first and the standby generator followed the next summer. 37 panels in November 2012: Thirty-seven Canadian Solar 245-watt panels, 9.07 kW in total, on Zep Solar mounting with an Enphase M215 microinverter behind each one and a GE production meter. Estimated first-year production is 10,136 kWh and the utility is JCP&L. It was commissioned on 25 November 2012. The panel rating is worth pausing on. Thirty-seven panels to reach nine kilowatts is what 2012 looked like; a 245-watt module was a perfectly

16 kW Generac standby generator in Middletown, NJ

16 kW Standby Generator Installation in Middletown, NJ | Whole-House Backup

Walter from Middletown, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since July of 2019. The generator was commissioned that September: 16 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp whole-house transfer switch, sized against a 14 kW calculation for the 3,000 square foot house. Two refrigerators, a separate freezer, a washer, a gas dryer and a dishwasher make up the load. Whole-house rather than a critical-load panel is the choice worth noting on a house this size: nothing has to be nominated in advance as the part that keeps working, and nobody has to remember which sockets were on

14 kW Generac standby generator in Middletown, NJ

14 kW Standby Generator Installation in Middletown, NJ | Generac Generator

Mike from Middletown, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since January of 2021. The generator was commissioned that August: 14 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp service-entrance switch with a smart management module, sized against a 15 kW calculation for the 2,442 square foot house. Two heat pumps are what put the calculated figure above the machine, and the management module is what reconciles the two – each compressor draws several times its running load in the instant it starts, and the module makes sure they never do it together. Bollards were agreed in advance as

22 kW Generac standby generator in Red Bank, NJ

22 kW Standby Generator Installation in Red Bank, NJ | Whole-House Backup

Jaymie from Red Bank, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2021. The generator was commissioned in April of 2022: a Generac Guardian rated 19.5 kW on natural gas, on a 200-amp service-entrance switch with a smart management module. The load calculation asked for 17 kW across the 2,500 square foot house – a sump pump, an electric oven, two refrigerators, a washer, a gas dryer and a dishwasher – so the machine carries a comfortable margin over the requirement. Eight months separated the contract from the commissioning, the permit and utility work of that

16 kW Generac standby generator in Asbury Park, NJ

Solar, a Generator and Soft Washing in Asbury Park

Dimitra from Asbury Park, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since September of 2016, and has come back twice since. The generator and the array were booked on the same day and finished within a week of each other. The soft wash came nine years later. A 16 kW Generac in a steel enclosure: Commissioned on 5 November 2016. The load calculation asked for a minimum of 12 kW under NEC Article 220 Part IV and a 16 kW machine went in, on a 200-amp managed whole-house transfer switch. The house is 2,400 square feet with a
