Squirrels and birds get into the gap between the panels and the roof, and most people find out the hard way: chewed wiring, staining down the shingles, or a system that has quietly stopped producing. Critter guard closes that gap with a mesh barrier clipped around the array. These are New Jersey homes where we fitted it, some on the day the panels went up and others years later, after something had already moved in.

120 completed critter guard projects across 78 New Jersey towns, including 21 with a review written by the customer.

Solar Panel Installation and Roofing Installation in Little Egg Harbor, NJ | 34 Panels

Jeffrey Cushman has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since March of 2021, when the roof and the solar array were bought on the same day. The roof was finished on 12 July 2021 and the array nine days later. 4,000 square feet, stripped to the deck: A single layer of old shingles came off down to the sheathing and left with the dumpster. Deck protection went over the exposed sheathing, then a GAF Timberline HDZ system in Pewter Grey carrying a 50-year warranty, aluminum drip edge along 353 feet of rakes, eaves and valleys, and a ridge vent

Solar Panel Installation and Roofing Installation in Rahway, NJ | 15 South-Facing Panels

Gordon Carson has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since December of 2020, when the roof and the solar array were bought on the same day. The roof was finished nine days later, on 15 December 2020, and the array the following March. 2,300 square feet, stripped back to the planks: The old shingles came off down to bare wood planks rather than plywood, which places this house in an older generation of building. Deck protection went over the exposed boards, then a GAF Timberline HDZ system in Fox Hollow Gray carrying a 50-year warranty, aluminum drip edge along

Solar Panel Installation in Midland Park, NJ | 19 Panels and 102 Feet of Guard

Rebecca from Midland Park, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2019. The array was finished on the last day of that year: 19 panels making 6.65 kW into a SolarEdge HD Wave inverter, with an optimizer on each panel and a 25-year warranty covering both, and 102 feet of critter guard around the perimeter. The design estimates 7,653 kilowatt hours in the first year, and PSEG interconnected the system in February of 2020. The existing roof was sound enough to build on, so the work stayed with the array – which is the outcome

Standby Generator Installation and Solar Panel Installation in Keyport, NJ | Conduit Across Three Roof Faces

Monessa in Keyport has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since February of 2019. The array went up that April and the standby generator followed in September of the following year. 25 panels across three faces: Twenty-five Hanwha Q.PEAK DUO 325-watt panels, 8.13 kW in total, split three ways: fourteen on the right roof face, eight on the left and three on the front. A SolarEdge SE6000H inverter with an optimizer on every panel, on Ecolibrium mounting. Estimated first-year production is 8,632 kWh and the utility is JCP&L. It was commissioned on 19 April 2019. Splitting an array three

Solar Panel Installation in Red Bank, NJ | 32 Panels and 10.24 kW

Luke and Samantha from Red Bank, NJ have been Green Sun Energy Services clients since February of 2020. The array was finished that April: 32 Hanwha Q.PEAK DUO panels making 10.24 kW into a SolarEdge HD Wave inverter, with an optimizer on each panel and a 25-year warranty covering both, plus 112 feet of critter guard around the perimeter. The design estimates 13,549 kilowatt hours in the first year, and JCP&L interconnected the system a couple of weeks after the panels went up. Two layouts were drawn before the work started, a smaller one and this one, and the larger

Solar Panel Installation in Colts Neck, NJ | 24 Panels and 8.64 kW on a Second House

Kristen from Colts Neck, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2020. This is the smaller of two arrays on the property, and it went up the same December day as the one on the main house: 24 LG NeON 2 panels making 8.64 kW into a SolarEdge inverter with optimizers, estimated at 9,294 kilowatt hours in the first year, with 100 feet of critter guard around the perimeter. The existing roof was in good enough condition to build on. Sizing it separately from the main house is the part worth noting – a second

Solar Panel Installation in Colts Neck, NJ | 52 Panels and 18.72 kW on a Main House

Kristen from Colts Neck, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2020. This is the larger of two arrays on the property, both finished on the same December day in 2020. The main house carries 52 LG NeON 2 panels making 18.72 kW into a SolarEdge inverter with an optimizer on every panel, an estimated 21,326 kilowatt hours in the first year, and 172 feet of critter guard around the perimeter. The existing roof was sound enough to build on, so the work stayed with the array, and JCP&L interconnected the system in January of

Solar Panel Installation and Roofing Installation in Sicklerville, NJ | Then 28 Panels and a Charger

George Arthur has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since May of 2024, when he bought a new roof. The solar array followed in October and both were finished within days of each other the following February. 3,000 square feet, stripped to the deck: The old shingles came off down to the sheathing and left with the dumpster. Deck protection went over the exposed sheathing, then a GAF Timberline HDZ system in Hickory carrying a 50-year warranty, aluminum drip edge along 310 feet of rakes, eaves and valleys, and a ridge vent along the peak. The roof was finished

Solar Panel Installation in Saddle Brook, NJ | Array Removed and Replaced

Steve from Saddle Brook, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since August of 2021. This one was a replacement rather than a first install: the nine panels on the west side of the house came down along with the mounting system and the inverter, went out for proper disposal, and every roof penetration was sealed with silicone before anything new went up. The new array followed in December of that year – nine LG NeON H panels making 3.33 kW on a Snap-N-Rack rail-free mounting system with an array skirt, a SolarEdge inverter with P401 optimizers, and

Solar Panel Installation in Manalapan, NJ | 10.22 kW Solar with Critter Guard

Steve from Manalapan, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since September of 2022. The array was completed in December of that year: 28 REC N-Peak 2 panels making 10.22 kW, a SolarEdge HD Wave inverter with an optimizer on each panel, and an estimated 11,455 kilowatt hours in the first year against what JCP&L supplies. We also ran 116 feet of critter guard around the perimeter, which is worth doing at install time rather than after the fact – the gap beneath the panels is sheltered and dry, and squirrels and nesting birds find it long before

Solar Panel Installation in Manahawkin, NJ | 196 Feet of Critter Guard

Emily from Manahawkin, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since March of 2020. The array was already up and working; what it needed was a barrier along its edge. We fitted 196 linear feet of black PVC coated critter guard around the perimeter in April of 2020, using the eight inch profile that suits rail mounted panels. On a barrier island the wildlife pressure is constant – gulls, squirrels and nesting birds all treat the shaded gap between panel and roof deck as sheltered ground, and wiring damage there is costly to put right and hard to

Solar Panel Installation in Hamilton, NJ | 266 Feet of Critter Guard

Kevin from Hamilton, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since March of 2020. The solar array was already on the roof; the job was to close the gap underneath it. In April of 2020 we fitted 266 linear feet of black PVC coated critter guard around the perimeter of the array, an eight inch profile made for rail mounted panels. The space between the panels and the roof deck is sheltered, dry and out of reach of anything larger, which is exactly why squirrels and nesting birds move into it – and chewed wiring up there is
