Solar Critter Guard

Squirrels and birds get into the gap between the panels and the roof, and most people find out the hard way: chewed wiring, staining down the shingles, or a system that has quietly stopped producing. Critter guard closes that gap with a mesh barrier clipped around the array. These are New Jersey homes where we fitted it, some on the day the panels went up and others years later, after something had already moved in.

119 completed critter guard projects across 78 New Jersey towns, including 21 with a review written by the customer.

Solar Panel Installation in Bridgewater, NJ | Adding 12 More Panels Two Years On

Stefan from Bridgewater, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since September of 2025 for this second phase, having had the first array installed two years earlier. Twelve more panels making 5.28 kW went on in November, with Enphase IQ8 microinverters and 148 feet of critter guard, adding an estimated 3,927 kilowatt hours a year to what the house already produced. JCP&L interconnected the addition in February. Coming back to expand an array is the clearest evidence a system has done what it promised – nobody adds to something that disappointed them – and the microinverter design is […]

Solar Panel Installation and EV Charger Installation in Bridgewater, NJ | A Charger and 23 Panels

Stefan from Bridgewater, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since May of 2023, and had the charger and the array installed a month apart – the charger first, which is the order that makes the arithmetic work. A ChargePoint, and a long wire run: 29 August 2023. The household bought the charger and we installed it in the garage on a dedicated 60-amp circuit at 11.5 kW, adding roughly 36 miles of range an hour. The work here was the wiring rather than the box. The run from the panel out to the garage measured well beyond

Solar Panel Installation in Toms River, NJ | 39 Panels and 13.65 kW

Greg from Toms River, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since September of 2019. The array was completed in November: 39 panels making 13.65 kW into a SolarEdge HD Wave inverter with optimizers, 226 feet of critter guard around the perimeter, and an estimated 15,221 kilowatt hours in the first year. JCP&L interconnected it in December. Seven years on, the critter guard is the part worth mentioning: the gap between panels and roof is where squirrels and birds nest, and the wiring damage they do is invisible from the ground until production quietly drops. The existing roof

Solar Panel Installation in Nutley, NJ | 8.4 kW of Solar

Jacqueline from Nutley, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since June of 2023. The array was completed in September: 8.4 kW with an estimated 9,451 kilowatt hours in the first year. Nutley sits in Essex County, well inland, on the older and more densely built side of the state – the roofs are smaller and closer together than in Monmouth or Ocean, and the survey work is correspondingly more about shading from adjacent buildings and mature street trees than about finding enough south-facing slope. An array that fits those constraints is designed around them rather than in

Solar Panel Installation in Atlantic Highlands, NJ | 36 Panels and a Battery-Ready Inverter

Robert from Atlantic Highlands, NJ has been a Green Sun Energy Services client since October of 2022. The array was completed in January of 2023: 36 panels making 13.14 kW into a SolarEdge Energy Hub inverter with optimizers, 172 feet of critter guard around the perimeter, and an estimated 18,030 kilowatt hours in the first year. JCP&L interconnected it at the end of the month. The Energy Hub is the inverter designed to take battery storage later without the electrical work being redone, which is worth having on a house this size – a thirteen-kilowatt array generates more than most

A single layer stripped to the sheathing and carted away rather than covered over, then 1,300 square feet of GAF Timberline HDZ in charcoal, warranted fifty years, with continuous soffit vents at the intake. 27 panels and 11.75 kW: Five days later, on 29 October: 27 Hyundai 435-watt modules with Enphase IQ8PLUS microinverters, rail-mounted, split

JCP&L interconnected the system in December. The critter guard runs 252 feet, the longest run on any array we have written up – it closes the gap between the panels and the roof along every exposed edge, which is where squirrels and birds get in and where the wiring they reach is
